A really common frustration we hear from dentists is “I just don’t feel like I’m getting anything done” or “I’ve got too much stuff to do and not enough time.”
It’s an awful feeling, but you’re not alone.
When it comes to productivity, there are a lot of really common hurdles in our way, like:
- Not having firm boundaries
- Cluttered paperwork
- Too many incomplete projects
- Lack of planning
Today, let’s focus on wrapping up some of those nearly-done projects using Kanban, a great methodology that allows you to visualise your workflow.
You can create a chart like this on your whiteboard or on a poster to keep it front of mind, and then use post-it notes with tasks on them. Like “Extend letter of offer” or “performance reviews”.
Tasks can be categorised as:
- To do
The backburner column is important so you don’t lose track of great ideas and future priorities.
Doing too much at once is the enemy of getting things done – so start with a few tasks and only pick up stuff on the backburner once you’ve moved some other projects into “Done”
It’s a great methodology and is at the heart of agile software, it’s what Lean Manufacturing and Toyota use – and it’s increasingly being adopted across the tech industry.
It gives you visibility, clear priorities, and turns an endless to-do list into a simple progress board.
